A college student was killed allegedly by a group of teenagers in Hathazari of Chattogram yesterday.

Md Tanvir, 16, was a ninth-grader at Alipur Rahmania School and College and son of Abdul Barek from Munshipara in the municipality.

Witnesses said a group of 10-15 teenagers beat Tanvir near the old municipal office, injuring him.

He was rushed to Hathazari Upazila Health Complex and later to CMCH, where doctors declared him dead, said Monjur Kader, officer-in-charge of Hathazari Police Station.

A classmate of Tanvir said a conflict arose between two groups of students -- from class nine and class ten -- at the school on October 15, over filming a clash on mobile phones. Tanvir reportedly tried to mediate the dispute but became a target of class ten students involved in the feud.

Yesterday, Tanvir and a friend were taken to Alipur Road, near the school, under the pretext of resolving the conflict, where he was attacked.

OC Monjur also said the motive behind the killing is being investigated, and efforts are underway to apprehend the perpetrators.

The body will be handed over to the family after the autopsy.
