Three accused have agreed to give their confessional statements in the case filed over the death of Jagannath University (JnU) student and Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal leader Jobayed Hossen.

They are the victim's student Barjis Shabnam Barsha, 19; her boyfriend Mahir Rahman, 19; and Mahir's friend Fardin Ahmed Aylan, 20.

A sub-inspector working at the court said the investigation officer filed three separate applications with the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's (CMM) Court to record their confessional statements after the trio expressed willingness to do so.

"Barsha, Mahir, and Aylan were escorted to the CMM Court around 2:40pm and kept inside the court lockup," Md Jahidul Islam, in-charge of the lockup, told The Daily Star.

Earlier in the day, Jobayed's brother Enayet Hossain Saikat filed a murder case with Bangshal Police Station accusing Barsha, Mahir, Aylan, and four to five unidentified individuals.

Following the case, Barsha and Mahir were brought to court as JnU students demonstrated on the premises, demanding punishment for those responsible for Jobayed's death.

Meanwhile, a group of JnU students are staging demonstrations on the court premises, demanding punishment for those responsible.

Jobayed, a student of the 2019–20 academic session in statistics department at JnU, was killed inside a building in Old Dhaka's Armanitola area around 4:45pm on Sunday. He was a convening committee member of the JnU unit of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal.

According to police, Jobayed had been tutoring Barsha for the past year at a house on Nur Box Lane in Armanitola, where he was murdered.
