SUST students stage sit-in demanding central students' union election
Students of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) in Sylhet have staged a sit-in protest demanding the long-awaited election of the Shahjalal University Central Students' Union (Sucsu).
The protest began at 3pm today (22 October) in front of the university's administrative building, where a group of students gathered, chanting slogans such as "Sucsu is our right," "Administration, remember — Sucsu in November," and "No more delay over Sucsu election."
The protesting students said they have repeatedly placed their demand for the Sucsu election before the university authorities in a peaceful manner.
"Although the administration has verbally assured us several times, no effective steps have been taken yet. We want to make it clear — we will not accept any more procrastination over the Sucsu election," they said.
Earlier, on 19 October, the students issued a 48-hour ultimatum to the university authorities through a human chain to announce a roadmap for the Sucsu election. However, the administration failed to deliver within the deadline.
