Teachers, students, officers and staff of the National University (NU) celebrated the university's 33rd founding anniversary with a colourful rally and a series of commemorative events on the NU campus.

The rally was led by Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr A S M Amanullah. Pro-Vice-Chancellors Professor Md Lutfor Rahman and Professor Dr Md Nurul Islam, and Treasurer Professor Dr A T M Zafrul Azam joined the celebrations.

Deans, the registrar, heads of departments, teachers, officers, staff and students participated. A cake-cutting ceremony was held afterwards.

Established on 21 October 1992 by an Act of Parliament to expand access to higher education, particularly through affiliated colleges and institutions, NU has played a central role in widening opportunities nationwide.

The university now has 2,257 affiliated colleges and institutions under its umbrella and a total student body of about 3.8 million, accounting for around 70% of the country's higher education enrolment.
