Catan shifts from board to screens with Netflix adaptation
Netflix is expanding its game-inspired slate with new projects based on the hit board game Catan, developing adaptations across live-action, animation, scripted, and unscripted formats.
The projects will be produced by Darren Kyman of Asmodee, Pete Fenlon of Catan Studios, and Benjamin and Guido Teuber, sons of the game's late creator, Klaus Teuber, alongside Roy Lee of Vertigo Entertainment.
First released in 1995, Catan has sold over 45 million copies worldwide and remains a cornerstone of modern board gaming. Asmodee CEO Thomas Koegler called the Netflix partnership a "testament to how board gaming has become part of pop culture."
Netflix continues to expand its gaming adaptations, following successes like Arcane and Castlevania, and upcoming projects like Assassin's Creed and Monopoly.
